ALFONSO II "THE CHASTE ONE "

First sovereign of Corona de Aragón, Alfonso II " the Chaste one " was king of Aragón and count of Barcelona from 1162, Marquess of Provenza (1166) and count of the Rosellón (1172). It presided over in Zaragoza the first documented Aragonese cuts and with attendance of the urban bourgeoisies (1164). Their transpirenaicos interests faced to him France and Navarre. It married with Sancha (1174), daughter of Alfonso VIII de Castilla, of whom it had to Pedro II and Constanza, soon queen of Hungary.

With the Castilian it signed the Treaty of Cazola (Soria), in which Aragón acquired right to conquer Islamic Levante until Biar, recognizing Castile the rights on Murcia. It conquered, among others, Valderrobles, Gandesa, Orta, Ulldecona and Teruel, to which it gave law.

It died in Perpignan in 1196.
