History:The Arrabassada line was created as a way to link a new Casino and an amusement park to the city. The new ressort area was established nearby the Sant Cugat del Vallès secondary road. With an agreement of the Diputació Provincial (county government) to the society 'La Rabassada, SA', in 1910 the tracks were laid in the roadside from Can Gomis, the termini of city system route 26.
The route was very close to the Casino life and experienced some trouble moments, when the casino was closed. For the opening the line used 4 trams on loan from Marseille (France) that were in service only few months as not suitable for a such hilly route. Service was resumed by 'Les Tramways de Barcelone', that created a new route from the city center in Catalunya sq. and put in service some cars of the new 200-class.
A new company -'Tranvías de Montaña, SA'- was created in 1923 and bought new cars. During the spanish Civil War the company was taken over by 'Tranvías de Barcelona Colectivizados' and became route 28 'Pça. Catalunya - Arrabassada', later 'Penitents - Arrabassada' and 500-class cars were used. The line conveyed people that avoided air raids and also troups that occupied the casino. Finally, the service was withdrawn late in 1938.
Depot, tracks and cars remained out of use until 1956, when the line was closed officialy and 3 tramcars were sold to 'F.C. Carreño' in Asturies and scraped years later.
