           The village
Senan is a small village of stone built houses, surrounded by woods and mountains, which can trace its origins back to 1159.

Situated 652 metres above sea level, the municipality covers a total area of 11,9 square kilometres.

The village is divided into the following parts:

The old village centre by the church, the Arrabal de la Creu (Area of the Cross), and the Arrabal de la Font ( Area of the Well), where a glass foundry used to exit in the eighteenh century.

The church of Santa Maria de Senan. This, the most important building in the village.

Architecturally spreaking, was constructed in the Romanesque style at the end of twelfth century, at the instigation of the monks of Montserrat.

El Racó de la Font, is an open space, just below the village which has been adapted for open air eating with benches and tables.

The spring from which yhe name derives provides an abundant supply of fresh water.

History.  The first known document in which the name of Senan appears is dated 1159, where the village is referred to a "Castrum de Mata de Senan".

The first feudal "Lords of the Manor" was Guerau de Granyena, together with his wifeSaurina in 1149.

 In 1244 responsibility for Senan passed to the monastery in Montserrat.
