Welcome
This
number presents three articles and a supplement in Spanish. The first article
is about municipal planning in the Mexican state of Tabasco located in the
Southeast of this Latin American country. The second contribution discusses the
efficiency of the Mexican regulatory system in relation to maritime ports (e.g.
container ports). The last article relates the social structure prevalent in
the diverse Mexican states with their transition towards democracy. Finally,
the supplement is a proposal of a change in focus of the Mexican federal
government public policy to improve the quality of life and the economic
development prospects of this country. The suggested strategy promotes local
development from the bottom considering the Mexican budgetary system, the
Mexican Constitution, public finance theories and the key elements of
successful local economic development experiences around the world.
