Dorin and Brutus travel to Chimaera, a city once threatened by red dragons. The boys find a dragon's egg in the forest, and Sara and Wildfire must help return the hatchling to its parents before Chimaera is destroyed.
Diabolyn makes a wish to become Queen of Dar-Shan, and it almost comes true...
A mysterious stranger appears at the Cavanaugh farm, claiming to be Sara's real father. John Cavanaugh and Wildfire must together rescue Sara in Dar-Shan
Vesta, the high chieftain of the sanctuary, is dying and has chosen Wildfire as her succesor. Wildfire's duty to the sanctuary is strong, and conflicts with his wow to protect Sara.
