"Jatabe" is the name of the Kennel concerned in the exclusive rearing of the Afghan Hound breed, belonging to myself: my name is Rafael Lanz Zarandona and through this page I hope we  all could know a little more about the origines of Jatabe, and of the other lines that lie behind as well.

"Jatabe" exist as an oficial registered afix in the  Real Sociedad Canina de España (Spanish Kennel Club) since 1991,althought actually, it would stay in the cupboard till the first litter in 1996, which took place in a very small but magic Basque village  located in the Viscay (Bizkaia) province (Maruri-Jatabe) , from where it took its name. I could talk for ages about the details of the golden period the Tazi lived in Spain and in the Basque Country of the 70ies, in which I had the great fortune to begin dealing  with this breed, as a  teenager, and all about my wanderings before owning  my first Afghan Hound, but  to be honest, I think it would be to wander excessively. I could not  forget saying  that was then , during all those wonderfull years, when my determination became firm and choose the way to follow.

Although, "Jatabe", as I have already explained, is in someway modern, the genetic foundation is consolidated through some very well bred historic blood lines, they could be refered as "míthic blood lines". Those blood lines are represented under the afixes: "Turkuman (U.K.);Grandeur (U.S.A.) & Branwen (Spain)" which other new lines would nourish from in diferent proportions.   Contemporary lines as "Sumava (Spain)" & Chahcheran (France),  could be able to perpetuate in time the special characteristics that define and diferentiate  this exclusive line. Sumava would become the corner stone setting the basement  and the fundation of  "Jatabe Kennels" and Chahcheran would give continuity to the first impulse in Sumava's pedigrees.. Sumava´s Lost in a Dream  &  Sumava´s Kairouan will be the dam and sire of the very first litter at Jatabe and "Chahcheran Inditu" will be the most prepotent  sire in the next years to come.

All those lines been related to each other through some legendary dogs, will show a high compatibility degree so they will allow the consecution of a very succesfull breeding program. The traits of this bloodline can be very easily identificated at first sight  in the fenotype beign it the pride and the glory  for me, and one of the very first goals of every serious breeder.
