Mod-Rock formados
en 1963 en Shepherds Bush (Londrés) por Pete Townshend (Chiswick,
Londres, 19-3-45, guitarra), Roger
Daltrey (1-3-45, Hammersmith, Londres, cantante), John Entwistle (Chiswick,
Londres, 9-10-44, Muere en Las Vegas el 26 de
junio de 2002 de un ataque al corazón. Bajo) y Keith
Moon (Wembley, Londres, 23-8-47, batería. Muere por sobredosis de medicamentos
en Londres el 8-9-78). Su
primer nombre fue The High Numbers. El grupo se introduce en los círculos
mod de la ciudad y empieza a llamar la atención por su costumbre de
destrozar sus equipos al término de cada concierto, siendo habituales los
colapsos de Moon, las discusiones entre ellos, los accidentes en escena, etc. My
generation y I´m a boy alcanzan el nº 2 en el Reino Unido. En 1969
participan como estrellas en el mítico festival de Woodstock. En 1971 llegan al
nº 1 con el LP Who´s next. Moon fue relevado por el batería de The
Faces Kenny Jones. Desaparecen en diciembre de 1983.
