Gear for the Magic Tour 2007-2008

Nothing really new for this tour, but my friend Edgar Aguilera got some really nice photos of Garry's rack and flight case that I think are worth for gearheads like me. Garry keeps playing his custom black Spector as his main bass with the blonde Guild Starfire (converted to fretless), another couple of Guild basses and a Grestch being used for specific songs.

Basses on the Magic Tour:

  • Spector NS-2J custom short-scale (main bass)
  • ’07 Gretsch Thunder Jet
  • Fretless ’65 Guild Starfire
  • ’60s Guild M-85
  • An e-size unknown 19th-century German upright is set up every night on stage. It was used for "Meeting accross the River" on the 10/18/2007 show in NYC when a stripped down version of the ESB with Garry on the upright, Roy on piano and Bruce played this rarely heard song from "Born To Run". (Note: The studio version features the great Richard Davis on upright bass.)

Signal chain for live shows with the ESBShure UHF M4 wireless from each bass into Ashly LX-308B line mixer, then Radial J48 DI to sound system, monitored through Sennheiser wireless in-ear monitors; Hartke HA4000 head and 4200 Professional Series cabinet (used for soundcheck and as monitoring backup to in-ears, but turned off for shows).

Basses used on the recording of "Magic":

  • ’63 Fender Jazz Bass
  • ’63 Fender Precision Bass with flats
  • Jerry Jones Longhorn
  • Brendan O’Brien’s ’64 P-Bass
