The Long Players

Mark Hudson and Gary Burr share dance as Garry watches

The Long Players started in 2004 packing Nashville clubs and theaters with faithful renditions of classic albums; The Beatles “Sgt. Pepper.” Bob Dylan’s “Blonde On Blonde”, The Rolling Stones “Let It Bleed” and others. The wrinkle to the concept that’s kept it all from simply becoming a karaoke night is that each song from these classic albums is sung by one of the many talented performers in the Nashville community. In a town like Nashville, “the bench” of local talent is longer and stronger than practically anywhere else in the world. When they played The Rolling Stones, “Let It Bleed”, album.. singers included Wet Willie’s Jimmy Hall, The Georgia Satellites Dan Baird and Fleetwood Mac’s Billy Burnette. When they did “Blonde on Blonde”, musicians like Al Kooper and Charlie McCoy who played on the original album, sat in with the band. Each album they’ve done has become an event that embraces and incorporates Nashville’s stellar musical community.

It started off with a group of veteran musicians who made it a monthly habit to hang out and spin vintage vinyl until the wee hours. Add in the fact that these vinyl junkies are also some of Nashville’s finest musicians, singers and songwriters and the plot thickens. Finally, throw in the concept that these same musicians wanted to go out and play some of their favorite classic albums in a live setting. Now, you’ve got a story.

That kind of fun becomes addictive. Now The Long Players have decided to take the party out of town. Figuring that there are many other like-minded music fans who would want to hear one of their favorite classic LP’s performed with a fan’s passion and pro’s precision, they’re handpicking a select group of singers and additional musicians to be able to re-create a generation’s favorite albums.

Here is a list of the classic albums they have performed so far.. put in your request and experience your favorite record.. live, in the proper sequence and in it’s entirety. Have any other favorites by the same artist? Sing along with more of their hits in the follow-up set. Or just pick a different album.

The Rolling Stones ; Let It Bleed Neil Young ; After the Goldrush The Band ; The Band Bob Dylan : Blonde On Blonde The Beatles : Sgt. Pepper CCR : Cosmos Factory The Who : WHO’S Next

JUST WHO ARE these guys? While the lineup has been known to change from date to date, the core band includes:

Steve Allen; Founding member of the Los Angeles New Wave era icons, 20/20 and an in-demand session guitarist/producer since moving to Nashville. Allen owns and operates Blue Planet studio.

John Deaderick; Keyboardist and sideman to The Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, Patty Griffin and many others, John plays sessions and also plays with one of Nashville’s local pop-rock favorites, The Bees.

Steve Ebe; Drummer Ebe moved to Nashville from Memphis as a member of Human Radio, in the early ‘90’s. He is consistently in demand for sessions and live dates.

Bill Lloyd; A former member of hit RCA recording act, Foster and Lloyd and country-rock supergroup The Sky Kings, Lloyd has enjoyed hits as a songwriter, appeared on records as a session player and singer, and continues to make critically acclaimed pop-rock solo records.

Garry Tallent; Internationally known as the bassist in Bruce Springsteen’s E. Street Band, Garry also produces, plays sessions and has the best 78-RPM collection in the Long Players. (Do we need to introduce him?)
