CORTALS D'ENCAMP - 2068 m
Access. Barcelona - Puigcerda - La Seu d'Urgell - Andorra
A classic mountain in the Tour of Catalonia, but not done in the Tour of Spain. From Encamp, the climb is quite short, 8-9km, but since the beginning, it is really really tough. The gradient in the first 2 km hardly ever less than 10%...and til the junction to Engolasters, no time to take a breath.
Criminal turns in the 2nd km
After that, you face one side of the mountain through some U-turns, which offer a nice view of the valley. Meanwhile, the gradient settles a peaceful 8%.
Views on the top
So this is km5’5 where you make a right and get into the final part of the climb, quite open, you can see clearly the end. The average, better now, 6-7%, and the road right to the ski station.
Summit of Cortals
39x25 necessary today, moreover at the beginning. The more you ride, the less the gradient becomes… A good asphalt for this must-do mountain in Andorra.
