HAUTACAM - 1516 m
Access. Toulousse - Tarbes - Lourdes
Not the toughest i the Pyrennees, their 13km have some sections specially complicated, up to 10%. This is what makes Hautacam different to other in this area, more regular.
Juanky chasing Nino at km.3
The hardest is in the mid part of the climb, where 4km have an average close to 9-10%. Besides, there's another critical section with 3km to go. The rest of the climb, is at 8% approx.
3km to go and still complicated
The most interesting of this mountain is its beauty. Since our first climb in Tour2000, when Javier Otxoa won, we must go there when organizing our training camps in Cauterets. The downhill to Argeles is probably the funniest in the Pyrenees, and the surface is excellent.
Tour 2000 peloton very close to us
To get the top, I recommend a 39x25, because here there are many sections which become very hard. There are breaks where you can relax, but in contrast other steepper sections. So probably you'll have to suffer it once before knowing where to push hard or not.
