Side Reintal

Not the toughest in Austria, but one of the most beatiful. In fact, that road is not for free for mtor vehicles, because that may drive to the Grossglockner, the highest in Austria. The climb from Reintal is eternal, with almost 20km flat at the beginning, excellent road. When reaching Rojach, we get into the second half, starting at 7%. But it is 3km later, when arriving to Heiligenblut, where a steep U-turn settles the start of the steepest part.

Critical moment. 12% is coming!

From that point, we have to face pure climber kilometers at 10-12%, road wide and no time to relax. Well, just one short section to pass the barrier for the cars to pay.

Just before paying...or not?

SO after that, this section lasts for 2-3km more, before the only flat section of the climb, up to 1km. There we arrive to a cross where we leave the Grossglockner road on our left (Franz Joseph Hohe). And now, the last part.

Good asphalt nice views with 7km to go

Once again, 7km at 9-11% of average. Now the views are spectacular. First a few U-turns, then long straights, and the final, similar to the Stelvio Pass, but wider.

Rafa at the tunnel on the top

Keep an eye on this one. Not the most famous, but hides interesting central-final part. In fact, last 18km are, except 2, almost at 9-10-11%. For me a 39x25, being fit, should be enough from Heiligenblut. Despite of that, we rode it really not the fastest.
