KITZBUHELER HORN - 1970 m

    Start. Kitzbuhel

Access. Innsbruck - Worgl - Sankt Johann in Tirol

One of the biggest surprises in 2007. Short climb, 12km approx, but really exaggerated. Just 50meters after the start, passing a bridge, the gradient is up to 10%. And only after the first kilometre a short flat, but very short.

Far away / First zone / Average gradient

Nice views on the climb, but quickly sections at 15-18%. We enter a small forest at km3, which hides the road, but after leaving it, a pay area, short relax… and total foolness.

Flat and steep at km2 / Rafa searching the 20%

Continuously huge sections at 12-15-18%...well asphalted, but riding very slow. So we keep going on, all through several slopes…but it comes a zone which is straight, at km8. Very long and tough, very tough. You may start at 15-16%, y and finish it at something like 22-23%. Incredible. After that, it’s a bit easier for 1’5km, until you reach the small Alpenhaus, where a barrier makes you stop.

Pacman finishing the 22% section

Once passed it, last 3km start with another 20% says ‘Hello!’. Now the road is really narrow, and gradients between 15-18% are usual. Gradients drove us crazy as not many times they did before.

That's me at 1'5km from the top

Such a brutal climb. Gradients are steep as Angliru, but there are a few more. Besides, the last part is really narrow, so it’s not easy to ride so slow in that road. 39x29, the maximum I’ve ever put. Really one of the funniest mountains I’ve done, and the views on the top are great.
