Kuhtai, famous as a ski resort in Innsbruck, has two famous sides to climb. But there's also a third one, the hidden Kuhtai we call it, departing from Haiming, reaching the top of the Silzer Sattel, going down 1km, and then joining the western side coming from Oetz at Ochsengarten. With all this, the climb becomes terrible, with almost 20km.
First meters of the Silzer Sattel
Since Haiming, the gradient settles at 11%, for almost 8 of the 10km the Silzer has. All through a huge forest, only the last 2km are a bit easier, 7-8%. But I recommend this side, never-ending climb, where after the summit, you get down for 2 steep kilometers to meet the western side.
Key moment, my suffer begins
The road is now narrow, but the asphalt is good. Still 9km to go, and the first 2 almost flat, but suddenly an inhuman 15% section, a criminal kilometer which leaves you empty. After that, another flat section before last 3km, with gradients of 5-7%.
Ninu attacks on the top of Silzer
This serious climb forces you the maximum. The Silzer which never seems to end, obligues a 39x25 or 27, but also the kilometer of the Kuhtai. Also to have a look is the eastern side, from Kematen with several sections at 12%.
