MONT CARO - 1435 m
Access. Barcelona - Taragona - Tortosa // Valencia - Castellón - Tortosa
For sure, the hardest climb surrounding my area. From Roquetes, there are 23km, , but only the last 14 to consider. This mountain is similar to the myths in the Tour, the weak point is the surface, really poor. Since the start, the average comes quickly to a dangerous 8-10% for 5km, just before reaching a zone where we can rest for a qhile.
Overviews on the second part of the climb
The second section offers us a non-stop 180º bends at a lower gradient, 7% approx. Anyaway, we're facing to a hard mountain. This section ends in a long straight where we cross the mountain to the right. Then, another break to take a breath for 1km before a junction where we leave the main road and take a left to the summit.
The steepest section at 2km to the top, at 14%
We go into the last part of this surprising climb. It's only 4km to go, but still a lot of weork to do, mainly first 2'5 where the average is close or up to 10%. It's really tough, legs don't work, the road is narrow and the surface horrible. Only when it's 1'5km to go, it's 'easier', at 7% but with some U-turns to make it shorter. We've done the hardest mountain in Tarragona
Summit of Mont Caro
A hard mountain this one, really. I'm sure that a 39x23 is not enough for te final part, so my recommendation is a 39x25, just in case of...crisis. It's a 1 hour climb also against the elements, because the clima is crazy: foggy, windy, rainy, sunny, whatever.
