SAMPEYRE - 2284 m
Start 1. Sampeyre
Access 1. Torino - Pinerolo - Saluzzo - Piasco
Start 2. Ponte Marmora
Access 2. Torino - Pinerolo - Saluzzo - Dronero
Long climb, this one, and tough, almost 16km very regular. Since leaving Sampeyre, after 200m going down, the road turns to something steep, 9-10%. The surface is poor, but views are funny, always surronded by a nice forest at the beginning, where gradient hardly ever is less than 8%...but ver up to 11%.
First kilometers through a forest
In fact, it comes a moment where, after 5-6km, the road opens wide. The forest disappears, and views over Valle Varaita are excellent. This unknown valley hides a few nice climbs to be visited. This second part seemed easier, but nothing to rely on. Gradients say it's almost the same, so again 9% approx.
Mid and last part of the climb
Last part is not different, but note we are at 2000m height, you know what I mean. I felt it was very wet, the two times I've done this. But insist on the asphalt, very bad, and the place, recommended. Note also the road down the other side towards Ponte Marmora, very very dangerous. And finally, recommend 39x25 because there isnt' any impossible section.
