Start 1. Carbonin
Access 1. Trento - Bressanone - Dobbiacco
Start 2. Cortina d'Ampezzo
Access 2. Padova - Treviso - Vittorio Veneto - Pieve di Cadore
A few stories in the Giro have this mountain as a scenario. The access to this tough short climb is via Cortina or Dobiacco. From Dobiacco, it starts at Carbonin, where the road drives to Misurina lake. Soft climb, 5km, approx 5% except 1km at 8-9%, not something special. Then a flat zone to the junction to Misurina-Auronzo-TreCime or to Passo TreCroci.
Rafa at Misurina lake
Misurina is very nice and relaxing, but just after that we face the first wall at 15-18%. Short, 1’5km, but tough, and then another flat for the pay area. After that flat, you get into the last part.
Pacman getting into the toughest
5km to the top, but absolutely steep. Always above 10%, a lot of times close to 15%, and a few almost 20%. A real vertical one. Besides, the first part is quite straight, which depresses you even more. At the end, the slopes, and then easier. Landscapes of the Dolomites are great, but now, to take a breath, almost impossible. Even after Rifugio Auronzo, last 2 straights are terrible.
Brutal sections and great viewsGradients are brutal, but the climb is quite short. The asphalt is ok, and the views great, but a 39x27 is mandatory…or even a 29. If we had chosen via TreCroci, maybe I would say something different
