One day in autumn 2003 discussing about the trip to Italy next summer, someone suggested an excursion to do in one day : climb the Stelvio, the Mortirolo and the Passo Gavia. After an initial NO, it took not more than 5 minutes to convinve ourselves. There would be one day in July without excuses: it wouldn't matter sun, rain or snow. And we did it.

First in the morning, to warm up, downhill to Bormio and towards Stelvio, with a little bit of snow on the top.

Then, a cold and long downhill to Bormio and Mazzo, to enjoy the Mortirolo. Here some of us started to get bad feelings o our legs...and we were getting late everywhere.

After that, we went down the Mortirolo to Edolo and then towards Ponte di Legno, where we started the painful Gavia very late in the afternoon. As you can see in the picture on the border, we got there very late, and then started the last adventure in the XXX day : get down the Gavia in the dark, at night. As planned, it was night when we started the downhill, so before leaving Spain we bought some lights which saved us.

I still can remember the face of those guys in the Passo Gavia when they saw us reaching the top at 21.20. They told us no one else got there at that time...and also didn't know anyone who would've done this mountains in one day before.

Yes, we're really crazy, but there it is, the XXX. We may have created a new Marmotte... I don't know. Anyway, I can only think of one day which I suffered more. It was in the Quebrantahuesos 2002, the long one...but surely despite of all this, I've never enjoyed it like that day in July.
